Chinese New Year 2013!
In Singapore, people here celebrate the Lunar New Year and it has been tradition for extended families to gather and celebrate it together. It’s really just a reason for every one to catch up with one another and for some ego sizing. The Lunar New Year is an auspicious time of the year for the chinese and hence it is customary to greet each other with blessings of good fortune and luck.
I am faced with a challenge. Imagine me visiting a relative and after the initial greetings, they pose the following question: So what are you doing these days?
That could possibly be one of the hardest questions to reply to in this festive season. It has been decided among my family members that my extended family need not know what I do during this period of time. After all there should only be one reason why you invite an undertaker to the house. So I have craftily thought of some ways to tell people what I do. How about these replies:
1) Oh I’m now in the import and export business! 2) I am in the furniture industry selling quality wood 3) I am a travel agent for a company that deals with transcendence 4) I am a lifestyle consultant and I help all my clients find the best fit to their problems 5) Oh that’s a hard one…I run a very complicated business in the healthcare industry and we deal mainly with palliative work. 6) I am doing counselling and I provide life and death options 7) I work in travel and our company provides packages for the ultimate trip in life 8) I am now involved in spiritual affairs 9) Part of my business entails selling houses. (Paper houses for offerings) 10) We provide financial support to our clients. (Paper money for offerings)**Some of them worked marvelously! All suggestions are welcomed!!
I hope you have had a wonderful Lunar New Year too! (: Welcome to the year of the snake!
